Movies

Were you wondering if I would ever go back to the movie theater? Well, I did. Here are my reviews...

Leo, oh Leo. You can't go wrong with Leo. He is a phenomenal actor. This is about people who dupe  people out of their money. He made tons of money. My favorite scene is when he is leaving the country club. Hilarious!
Tom Hanks is also a phenomenal actor. This movie is two hours long. An hour and a half of it will exhaust you from fear. I wasn't sure of the outcome of this real life situation which made it all the more tense. Great movie!
Another very tense movie. The zero gravity made me very stressed. Everything takes so long when you're floating along. I didn't know what the outcome of this movie was either so it made it pretty stressful. Come to think of it, most of the movies were pretty stressful, but good.
This movie was a very good war movie, if that's what you like. I do. It's amazing anyone survived this.
If you love Mary Poppins you will love this movie. Very interesting what Walt went through to get Mary Poppins made.
I had no idea what this movie was about. I guess because it has Dallas in the title I thought it was going to we about cowboys and rodeos. Not exactly. There is a rodeo element to the movie but it's about people with HIV and AIDS trying to get the medications they need to live. This movie will make you hate the FDA even more than you do now.

Jennifer Lawrence is amazing in this movie. Actually, everyone is. I loved the 70s styles.  Christian Bale is almost unrecognizable and completely opposite of his "The Machinist" physique.
Cate Blanchett is very good in this film. It's a little slow moving but to be honest, if you want to sit through a movie and have no resolve then this is the movie for you. You can probably live without seeing this movie.

It's a new year, I'm so happy!

Yes, I've been gone, now I'm back. Thanks.

So, I used to think that proclaiming a new year resolution was stupid. People would be at a party, drinking, and would make some resolution (usually to lose weight or work out more) and then after a couple weeks it would all go down the drain. It sort of reminded me of Lent. The Catholics give up something for an amount of time (I think until Easter but since I'm not into religion I'm not really sure). Then after that amount of time they go back to whatever they gave up. Again, stupid. The last couple years I also have given up something for Lent. Not being Catholic, I can't remember what it was. I did give up soda a while back for health reasons. It didn't help with weight loss so I'm not sure why I gave it up.

Last year I made a resolution for the first time. I resolved to not get a receipt for a purchase if I had a choice. Costco gas stations are one place that give you a choice. When the the machine asked if you want a receipt I always say no.  This also works at Starbucks.  It makes me wonder why more establishments don't offer a choice. It saves paper. That's a good thing right?

Well, this year I also decided to make a resolution. I resolved to stop taking and thinking negatively about myself. You know what I mean. Like, when someone tells you that you look nice and you say "oh, really? These clothes are old". Or when someone says they like your hair and you say "oh man, I'm having such a bad hair day".

What wrong with taking a compliment? I know it's hard. It's also hard not thinking negatively about yourself. I had to stop myself just today while talking to Pretty Teacher. I was saying that I wasn't sure I was going to work out today. She said everyone deserved a day off. I immediately started in about how f.. my a.. was and I stopped myself.  I then explained to her what I was going to say and that I stopped because I wasn't going to do that anymore. I am what I am (just like Popeye) and if I skip one day of working out it's ok.

Thanks Lisa. I hear you.

I went to a shark party this summer. These people really get into Shark Week!

I'd like to say.....

That this is why I've been gone so long.

But it's not. I will have a huge project to show you soon. Lot's of pictures. Can't wait? I'm sure!

Take That Cake-In-A-Bowl!

I have an enemy. A nemesis. An adversary. A betrayer. A rival. An opponent. It's name is Cake-In-A-Bowl. I have tried for years to make this cake the way it was meant to be (or so said Bon Appetit)!  (Having trouble formatting the picture. Sorry for all the extra space!)

Year after year, I try and I try but to no avail.Well, this year I decided it would be the last time I made this cake. It  has four layers, three frostings, takes two days to make and assemble, and I would rather make other things. This year I decided, that since it was the last time I make it I would try one last time to make it not in a bowl.

Guess what?

Ta Da!!! I feel I can now retire the Devils Food Layer Cake with Peppermint (and two other) Frosting.

I also made this:

This didn't turn out how the recipe said it would (which I am VERY tired of!). It's from Food Network Magazine. I guess is was ok. I refused to eat it. There are two frostings. One frosting was a chocolate and toffee flavor with chopped, roasted pecans (which I could eat with a spoon) and the top has a chocolate glaze. The chocolate toffee ended up being way more runny than it should have and the glaze was not runny enough. I hear the cake was good.

My favorite part of Thanksgiving, besides being with family and friends, is the mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy. They were great!

So, please, next year I would like to go back to the spice cake with cream cheese, toffee frosting and the devils food with  mocha frosting. Thank you!

I Just Have a Few More Rambles

Hab-what? Haboob!

When Pretty Girl has a child it will be a girl and she will look like this. That's right, she will come out looking like this. The child, not Pretty Girl. What shall we name her?

When was the last time you saw one of these? It was at a casino. So many people were taking pictures.

This girl was in a Halloween store at a mall. The first time we walked by I couldn't go in. She scared me. When we were leaving I couldn't miss the chance to take her picture and share with you all. She gives me nightmares. Oh, and that broom, he has a mind of his own!

This is Bo (or Beau, I'm wasn't clear on the spelling). He was the bouncer that night. The bar is Lahaina. On the beach in Pacific Beach (San Diego). I try to go every time I'm in town.

Random Ramblings

Did I mention Pretty Doctor went to a bachelorette party in Vegas and flew home on a private jet? It's the bigger one on the left! No, the one in from of the huge one.

Did you know that the Target by Hotel Circle in San Diego is two story? This is the cart escalator!

That wedding I went to in San Diego last May? Here's all the booze.

And here's the beautiful wedding cake.

When I go to the beach in the summer we stay here. Every weekend there is this impromptu car show. This was one of my favorites. This guy drives down the street several time with the doors open and his woofer blasting.

This last trip to the beach I also saw this car on the freeway. Why would anyone do this to a Caprice Classic!

Hodads! Enough said!

Did I mention I got pulled over for criminal speeding in Casa Grande on the way to Pretty Doctor's house? No? He let me go. He only talked to Pretty Girl, like I wasn't even there. You need her in your car if you're going to speed.

This was that same trip to see Pretty Doctor but apparently THIS isn't illegal!
